De acordo com os cientistas, o pl\u00e1stico obtido a partir do amido \u00e9 biodegrad\u00e1vel e biocompost\u00e1vel, e portanto ao se decompor, n\u00e3o contamina o meio ambiente.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Fernando Torres, coordenador geral do projeto da PUCP, assegurou que o processo de fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o se inicia no laborat\u00f3rio, onde a batata \u00e9 cortada em peda\u00e7os e colocada em um liquidificador para homogeneiz\u00e1-la, posteriormente &#8220;\u00e9 extra\u00edda a umidade, filtrada e processada mediante m\u00e9todo de centrifuga\u00e7\u00e3o onde a mistura \u00e9 seca para obter o amido&#8221;. Torres indicou que para obter o pl\u00e1stico, \u00e9 utilizado uma extrusora modificada para processar pl\u00e1sticos convencionais e biopl\u00e1sticos, e logo a partir do pl\u00e1stico quente obtido, \u00e9 poss\u00edvel dar forma mediante opera\u00e7\u00f5es de prensa e laminado, obtendo pl\u00e1sticos similares aos fabricados em processos industriais.<\/p>\n<p>O pesquisador assegurou que o desenvolvimento deste novo material foi poss\u00edvel gra\u00e7as ao financiamento do Programa de Ci\u00eancia e Tecnologia do Peru (FINCyT).<\/p>\n<p>Torres manifestou que no Peru s\u00e3o utilizados pl\u00e1sticos derivados do petr\u00f3leo para embalagens da produ\u00e7\u00e3o agroexport\u00e1vel e este m\u00e9todo de embalagem produz contamina\u00e7\u00e3o que permanece no meio ambiente por centenas de anos. Para o pesquisador, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de pacotes que utilizem f\u00e9cula de batata como mat\u00e9ria prima permitiria o ingresso a mercados com altos padr\u00f5es ambientais.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mais pesquisas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Em Trujillo, uma prov\u00edncia ao norte da capital peruana, o Dr. Eloy L\u00f3pez, respons\u00e1vel pelo instituto da Batata e Cultivos Andinos da Universidade Nacional de Trijillo (UNT) indicou que em sua universidade est\u00e3o realizando pesquisas tomando como base a batata-doce (<em>Ipomoea batatas<\/em>) e destacou que ao utilizar batatas no processo de fabrica\u00e7\u00e3o do pl\u00e1stico biodegrad\u00e1vel, seria poss\u00edvel aproveitar as perdas da produ\u00e7\u00e3o deste tub\u00e9rculo. De acordo com L\u00f3pez, 20% da produ\u00e7\u00e3o de batata \u00e9 abandonada nas fazendas por estar mal formada ou fraturada.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez afirmou que \u00e9 poss\u00edvel desenvolver pl\u00e1sticos biodegrad\u00e1veis submetendo o amido a uma s\u00e9rie de processos at\u00e9 formar o \u00e1cido ac\u00e9tico, e a esta subst\u00e2ncia \u00e9 adicionada quitina e carrageninas, a primeira procedente de esqueletos de crust\u00e1ceos como camar\u00f5es e lagostas, e a segundas procedente de algas.
