O estudo realizado pelos pesquisadores Daniel Boyce, Marlon Lewis e Boris Worm, indica que a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de fitopl\u00e2ncton na superf\u00edcie do mar diminuiu a uma taxa de 1% ao ano desde 1950, mas essa queda se acelerou nos \u00faltimos anos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><!--more-->O fitopl\u00e2ncton tem um impacto global, mesmo fora do oceano. S\u00e3o estes micro-organismos que s\u00e3o respons\u00e1veis processo de processar o CO\u00b2 do planeta e produzir metade do oxig\u00eanio do planeta para sustentar a vida, como nas selvas e florestas. Al\u00e9m de iniciar a cadeia alimentar, pois fitopl\u00e2ncton \u00e9 consumido pelo zoopl\u00e2ncton, e esses dois tipos de pl\u00e2ncton, por sua vez s\u00e3o o alimento para milhares de esp\u00e9cies de peixes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Cientistas especializados em vida marinha, indicam que em certas circunst\u00e2ncias a quantidade de pl\u00e2ncton diminui em algumas \u00e1reas do oceano, como durante o El Ni\u00f1o, um grande n\u00famero de aves e mam\u00edferos marinhos morrem de fome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Os cientistas encarregados da pesquisa t\u00eam usado sat\u00e9lites e analisaram dados de cerca de 450 mil observa\u00e7\u00f5es feitas entre 1899 e 2008. O conjunto de dados mostra que a massa de fitopl\u00e2ncton diminuiu em oito das dez regi\u00f5es observadas e apenas no Oceano \u00cdndico t\u00eam relatado um aumento na biomassa fitoplanct\u00f4nica, especialmente no sul. &#8220;N\u00f3s analisamos os dados de todos os \u00e2ngulos, de perspectivas locais e globais, para ter certeza de que n\u00e3o produzimos apenas estat\u00edticas&#8221;, declarou Worm, acrescentando: &#8220;confiamos que os resultados s\u00e3o contundentes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Segundo Worm, o aquecimento da superf\u00edcie do mar impede a circula\u00e7\u00e3o de nutrientes entre os n\u00edveis superior e inferior do oceano, devido a este fen\u00f4meno o fitopl\u00e2ncton morre por priva\u00e7\u00e3o de alimentos. Os pesquisadores acreditam que a redu\u00e7\u00e3o da quantidade de fitopl\u00e2ncton \u00e9 devido a um aumento de entre 0,5 e 1,0\u00b0C nos \u00faltimos 100 anos.
