A iniciativa n\u00e3o \u00e9 novidade, trata-se de um sistema desenvolvido pela empresa PetroAlgae, dos Estados Unidos, e de acordo com seus criadores a tecnologia que oferecem a outros pa\u00edses permite obter at\u00e9 14 mil gal\u00f5es de combust\u00edvel para cada acre de algas (0.4 hectares). Representantes da empresa PetroAlgae afirmam que esse sistema j\u00e1 est\u00e1 em funcionamento na Tail\u00e2ndia, no Suriname e no Equador, e agora poderia funcionar com sucesso no Chile.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nA proposta da Petroalgae \u00e9 interessante: a partir do cultivo de algas \u00e9 poss\u00edvel obter combust\u00edvel e, ao mesmo tempo, prote\u00ednas para o consumo animal. Jorge Abukhalil, vice-presidente da Petroalgae na Am\u00e9rica Latina, explica que o processo de produ\u00e7\u00e3o de algas \u00e9 bastante simples, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio apenas transferir as algas de seu ambiente para uma piscina biorreativa e esperar que se reproduzam em um prazo m\u00e1ximo de 48 horas. Assim que a piscina estiver cheia de algas, o processo de desidrata\u00e7\u00e3o para obter combust\u00edvel ou prote\u00edna para consumo animal pode ser iniciado.<\/p>\n<p>O grupo AIQ adquiriu a patente da Petroalgae para iniciar a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de prote\u00edna para consumo animal em territ\u00f3rio chileno, por\u00e9m, n\u00e3o est\u00e1 descartada a possibilidade de produzir derivados que sirvam \u00e0 ind\u00fastria petroleira. Atualmente, o grupo empresarial est\u00e1 procurando um terreno de 500 hectares para construir as piscinas que possibilitar\u00e3o o cultivo das algas.
