A consequ\u00eancia deste fen\u00f4meno \u00e9 o derretimento das placas de gelo, com mais da metade da superf\u00edcie transformada em neve.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Esta onda de calor foi ainda mais prejudicial porque chegou ap\u00f3s uma inverno seco, e mais suave, com uma primavera que permitiu o desgelo. A especialista sobre o clima polar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Ruth_Mottram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ruth Mottram<\/a>, do <a href=\"http:\/\/Danish Meteorological Institute Join this Department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instituto Meteorol\u00f3gico Dinamarqu\u00eas<\/a>, afirmou para a revista National Geographic que o derretimento est\u00e1 muito acima da m\u00e9dia normal para esta \u00e9poca do ano.<\/p>\n<p>Em 2012, passou algo similar. Ao redor de 97% da superf\u00edcie da capa de gelo da Groel\u00e2ndia sofreu derretimento, perdendo 250 bilh\u00f5es de toneladas de \u00e1gua, aumentando os n\u00edveis do mar global em aproximadamente oito d\u00e9cimos de mil\u00edmetro.<\/p>\n<p>O cientista polar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cryocity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marco Tedesco<\/a>, do Observat\u00f3rio Terrestre Lamont Doherty, na Universidade da Columbia, afirmou que \u201cestamos nessa trajet\u00f3ria. Estamos aproximando-nos ao recorde de 2012\u201d, disse.<\/p>\n<p>Os cientistas sabem que a mudan\u00e7a clim\u00e1tica est\u00e1 causando estas \u00e9pocas de desgelo na regi\u00e3o,\u00a0 que poder\u00e3o ser ainda mais intensas e prolongadas. Por\u00e9m, h\u00e1 uma d\u00favida se o fen\u00f4meno se transformar\u00e1 em algo comum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Como se derretem as geleiras<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Um estudo recente, <a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/cgi\/doi\/10.1126\/science.aax3528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">publicado na revista Science<\/a>, descobriu uma nova forma de medir o derretimento de algumas geleiras.
