Segundo ela, praticar esse tipo de exerc\u00edcio h\u00e1 mais de uma d\u00e9cada \u00e9 o que hoje a torna capaz de viver de forma independente porque ela percebeu que s\u00f3 caminhar n\u00e3o bastava para ser saud\u00e1vel.<\/p>\n<p>A sua longevidade reflete uma melhor gest\u00e3o das doen\u00e7as cr\u00f4nicas, o que permite aos idosos viver mais tempo, mesmo que tenham graves problemas de sa\u00fade. Mas h\u00e1 momentos em que a fun\u00e7\u00e3o f\u00edsica se deteriora, corroendo a qualidade desses anos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManter a independ\u00eancia \u00e9 muito importante\u201d, diz a cientista de sa\u00fade p\u00fablica Rebecca A. Seguin-Fowler, diretora do programa Vida Saud\u00e1vel do Instituto Texas A&amp;M AgriLife para o avan\u00e7o da sa\u00fade por meio da agricultura.
