Os pesquisadores identificaram que os fungos micorr\u00edzicos (especificamente as ectomicorrizas e as micorrizas ericoides) t\u00eam a capacidade de alterar em at\u00e9 70% a quantidade de carbono acumulada no solo. Uma enorme contribui\u00e7\u00e3o, considerando que o solo captura carbono de modo massivo, inclusive em uma quantidade maior do que as plantas e o ar juntos.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Os testes demonstram que, em qualquer parte do mundo onde estes fungos se encontram, o solo cont\u00e9m 70 % mais carbono do que nos lugares onde o fungo n\u00e3o est\u00e1 presente. Este efeito n\u00e3o \u00e9 alterado pelas caracter\u00edsticas clim\u00e1ticas do ambiente. Portanto, poderia ser atribu\u00eddo \u00e0 a\u00e7\u00e3o direta destes pequenos organismos.<\/p>\n<p>Foi uma grande descoberta para todos os cientistas interessados no estudo do ciclo do carbono. \u201cEste estudo mostra que as \u00e1rvores e os agentes que ocasionam a decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o est\u00e3o muito conectados atrav\u00e9s destes fungos. Portanto, n\u00e3o podem ser feitas previs\u00f5es precisas sobre o ciclo do carbono sem estudar como os dois grupos interagem. Precisamos pensar holisticamente\u201d, disse Adrien Finzi, pesquisador que participou deste estudo e professor de Biologia na Universidade de Boston.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simbiose salvadora<\/strong><br \/>\nO processo funciona da seguinte maneira: no solo, o nitrog\u00eanio alimenta os pequenos organismos que decomp\u00f5em as \u00e1rvores mortas e liberam carbono na atmosfera. Alguns fungos micorr\u00edzicos, que vivem nas ra\u00edzes das plantas, extraem nitrog\u00eanio do solo e o convertem em nutrientes para as \u00e1rvores. Neste processo, liberam o solo de nitrog\u00eanio, de modo que, quando a planta morre, o nitrog\u00eanio retorna ao solo. Por\u00e9m, isto faz com que se desacelere o processo de decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o da planta e se reduza a libera\u00e7\u00e3o de carbono.<\/p>\n<p>A rela\u00e7\u00e3o simbi\u00f3tica beneficia os fungos e as \u00e1rvores.
